Is mere belief enough?
Can one prove the existence of God?
Gabriele, the prophetess and spiritual ambassador of God for our time, answered these questions in the Cosmic School of Life on the 21st of May, 2000. Here is a brief excerpt:
No one of us can prove the existence of God with words, none on all the Earth can prove God’s existence with words. There’s a religion where they say, “You are saved by faith alone.” But this salvation is the purity of the emotions, the purity of thought, the purity of action. Thus, it is the nearness to the great love, which is God. And so, “faith alone” does not bring salvation.
I have seen many people where this “faith alone” has numbed them towards God. It brings nothing. If I say, “Yes, yes, I believe,” but do what I want to, then I will never experience God.
Jesus never said that faith alone brings salvation. He spoke about doing. “Do my teaching.” If we fulfill step by step the commandments of God and the Sermon on the Mount, if we simply take the time to let the commandments of God work in us, including the teaching of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, then we feel that the words of the commandments and of the Sermon on the Mount resound ever more in us, and that even more comes out of our heart. We then begin to understand the Ten Commandments of God and the Sermon on the Mount of Jesus in the right way. And even if these are only tiny aspects that we understand, these tiny aspects show us that it isn’t at all difficult to follow Jesus. He doesn’t demand that we be immediately and absolutely pure. He expects us to take the steps toward Him. Not that we “crawl” on our way toward Him, but that we go toward Him step by step, for we are sons and daughters of God.
We should behave in the decent way that is due to God and grow closer and closer to Jesus by taking what we have recognized from the commandments and the Sermon on the Mount and put them into practice in our life. If we apply them in our life, in our life on earth, then we will become free from within. Our behavior patterns change very gradually. We become more calm and quiet. We become more secure. We treat our neighbor with good will. We know what he needs in his heart and try to help him. If he does not want our help, then we let him be, but we do not let him out of our heart.
These steps toward Jesus, the Christ, give us the strength to become aware of the fact that we are children of God, sons and daughters of our eternal Father. Our behavior then becomes more serious and earnest. Our belief has become trust, so to speak. We have entrusted ourselves to Jesus, the Christ and feel in ourselves that we are growing closer to Him. In our thinking, in our whole behavior, a total transformation takes place. An inner happiness, an inner security, an inner joy then brings about certainty that we are not alone. This great Spirit of the universe has become alive in us.
We suddenly feel nature in a totally different way. We notice that every flower, every tree, every animal, has a certain language. It is the language of the almighty Spirit. We feel what nature and the animals need. We feel in our heart how things are with our neighbor, how we can help him, and we see whether we should say or do something for him. It is the great Spirit, who draws closer to us, and who guides us. The fears and worries diminish. We know there is a fortress in us, it is the Spirit of God, it is the great love. We can withdraw into this fortress at any time, and tank up with the One who loves us because we are going towards Him step by step, and our behavior, our whole thinking, speaking and doing has changed. We have changed to the positive.
“Become perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect” – and this becoming perfect is the steps towards Christ, by becoming aware of the commandments of God and the teaching of Jesus and taking the time to grasp the essence of them and then to take the steps that we have recognized from what God gave us. That which we accomplish, we cannot prove to others. Another one can perhaps see that we have changed ourselves, that we have become a totally different person. And if it is a large group which follows this great Spirit, Jesus, the Christ, then our neighbor will experience this in the group, in the actions of this community, but no one can prove it. The proof that God exists, lies in ourselves alone.
In time, faith alone makes a person doubtful and numbed, but the active faith gives us the certain knowledge that there is a fortress in us, that we can go into this fortress at any moment. The love which gives us the strength to take the next steps is in this fortress. It is the great Spirit of love which is active in its own house – which we are since we are the temple of God – showing us the next steps to take.
And so, we need no churches of stone. We need Jesus, the Christ, and the good will to follow Him, no matter what happens.
