To act selflessly means that I clear up my base ego which is always wanting something which demands gratitude, which demands agreement, which, spoken in a general way, demands applause. The Inner Path means that I develop myself and let the higher powers be effective through me. And we develop on the Inner Path by diminishing this applause to our ego. When the ALL-Power of God can work through us bit by bit more, then we will no longer question: Why do I do this? For whom am I doing this? I do it because God is giving. God is love; He gives untiringly and does not ask: What for am I giving this, why am I giving this? For whom am I giving this? He makes no exceptions, He gives. And so, just as the forces of God stream through us, we give, without asking what we will get from it. But as long as we do ask: What will I get for what I am doing, as long as we expect praise, recognition, thanks, that is, this human kind of applause, we are not giving selflessly; we are only talking about it. The whole of the Inner Path is directed toward becoming aware of what we are in God. When we are at some point aware of what we are in God, then we will also do what God wants step by step. Then we will activate the inner forces, which means that we mobilize the fullness of infinity in us and pass it on to the extent that it can be passed on in this world. For then it is the higher powers that are in the fullness, in readiness, that is, they are present. And at this point, I almost want to say in the head.
This is only a small extract from the Cosmic School of Life, the Meeting of All God-Seekers, which takes place every Sunday at 10:00 a.m., in many Original Christian Gathering Places.
